I found this place by typing sushi near me into a browser. It's nice. Omikase isn't usually my thing because I like to choose my own sushi but it was nice to try something different. The restaurant was empty except for my 2 yr old and I. Service was absolutely fantastic. They really went above and beyond for my child. He ate edamame, sashimi, a plate of steamed veggies and rice. Alcohol wise, it's only bottles. They don't do anything by the glass. My guess is they're not busy enough to do anything by the glass. Shame so I just didn't order anything to drink. I couldn't possibly finish a bottle myself. The omikase was a mix of stuff I liked and some stuff that just wasn't up my alley. It was my first time trying uni and I liked it. I was also a fan of the nigiri they served and the broth in the soup with the fish cake. The starter of seaweed with some kind of foam was not up my alley. There were a lot of courses but I left hungry. Soups just aren't things I would order going to sushi and I would want more nigiri than offered. Overall it was nice to go someplace new and the service was truly fantastic.

Discreet sushi restaurant. No signage but easy to find next to Hungry Boy. $80/person omakase lunch was worth it - rich, quality ingredients, thoughtful dishes. Service was pleasant; made reservations and dining felt like an intimate experience . Only downside: chef wasn't directly in front for photos/videos. Overall, highly recommend!

AFFORDABLE OMAKASE!!! I don't like sushi! I LOVE sushi! It's my religion when it comes to this cuisine! When we found out this place in Michelin Guide, we know for sure we need to try their omakase asap! We went on a weekend lunch and surprisingly it wasn't busy at all! I love our server! Forgot to ask his name but he showed us some tips to take good shot for these nigiris! More images on our IG: Belly.around.the.world

What an amazing birthday treat! Our lunch felt like a private dining experience, because no one else was in the restaurant (for most of the meal.) We sat at the spacious chef's counter for omakase, ready to OOH and AAH.  Selection included the classics, like red snapper, halibut, bluefin tuna, and scallop. Our chef kicked it up a notch by embellishing the uni with caviar and a shimmering gold flake. Hidden underneath the silky chawanmushi were tender bits of crab and shiitake mushrooms. We found the yuzu sherbet difficult to enjoy. Each bite struck us with bitterness, like we were eating an icy yuzu pith. The floral spoon was a charming touch though! It's easy to miss this restaurant! Just look for a little wooden block on a window :)

Made a reservation for lunch via yelp very easily. A couple days ahead of the reservation, I got a call to confirm. We had omakase for lunch on a Friday at 11 am and it was literally a private experience for us because the next group of people didn't come in until 11:30 am! Omakase was $80, included a salad a couple of hot appetizers and 8 pieces of omakase. The higher price tag earns you some uni with caviar and gold flakes, toro, and some nicer fishes that you don't normally get when you eat an omakase that's $50 to 60. Service was nice and the chefs would prepare fish to the pace that you eat. We were hungry so they kept the fish going. A nice "treat yoself" omakase meal.

Stopped by for my birthday dinner earlier this month with a friend and we had an amazing omakase experience here! Momoyama is a little hidden gem located in Fountain Valley and you can easily pass by it without looking since there's no signage for it. The wonderful service from the staff and the freshness and quality of the food served throughout my dining experience was top notch. The chefs were friendly and conversational and the server bringing out dishes from the back kitchen was also friendly and helpful with any recommendations My friend and I got the cheaper omakase which was the Azuchi menu which gives you 3 starting dishes, 8 pieces of sushi, a sashimi dish, 1 special dish, and dessert. The sushi was freshly made in front of us and it's always exciting to watch them prepare it in front of you. Several dishes were made in the back kitchen and brought out to us. Presentation was great from start to finish and you can taste the quality as you eat each dish. Several highlights for me were the Otoro with caviar, Golden Eye Snapper, Amberjack, & Seabream. The menu also varied from fish to meat including A5 Wagyu to Uni and sashimi. We also ordered the Kubota sake and it was refreshing and paired well with the omakase menu. The final dish which was dessert was yuzu sherbet and that was a refreshing way to finish off our meal. The inside décor is quite minimal and the ambience is lovely and inviting. Overall, I had a fantastic birthday dinner here and we ended up feeling quite satisfied after the whole meal. If you want a great omakase experience in OC, make a reservation at Momoyama! 5/5.

Annual Omakase Dinner for my birthday with the girls. This is a hidden gem in the city of Fountain Valley. Almost couldn't locate the place when we got here. Their dinner menu is around 225 per person with a 16 preset omakase . They used some of the higher end ingredients including caviar and fresh uni. 4 stars because I had better omakase in the past but the ambiance and service was lovely here.
